5 Ways To Recover From A Toxic Weekend

5 Ways To Recover From A Toxic Weekend

I

t’s almost impossible to be 100% healthy all the time and if you are 100% healthy all the time then you’re not invited to my pool party because that’s no fun at all. Life would be totally boring if we constantly said no to treats. What’s the point in going to the gym five days a week if you don’t undo a little bit of your hard work with a few too many glasses of wine with crackers and cheese? You just need to jump back up on the health wagon when the weekend is over!

If you’ve let yourself go a little bit with treats, alcohol and making love to your couch for 2 days in a row, here are 5 ways to recover from a toxic weekend.

1. Stop beating yourself up and just get over it

So you ate a whole giant Easter bunny, chased it with a shiraz/pizza dinner, skipped your workout and binge watched House of Cards for 8 hours straight. That’s awesome. You are officially a legend. High five yourself for making an excellent life choice, tell yourself it was totally worth it (because you know it was!) and start the week with a positive and healthy attitude. Don’t look at the weekend as something you have to punish yourself for, look at it as the wonderful treat it was and acknowledge that it’s time to get back into your regular eating habits again.

2. Eat simple food with recognisable ingredients

You don’t need to drink green smoothies and start sprinkling flax seeds on everything but try to eat recognisable foods. Like vegetables and fruit. Try not to eat anything that comes in a wrapper for the next few days and you’ll feel like a million bucks in no time.

3. Drink water with lemon in the morning

Lemon water aids digestion, cleanses your liver and freshens your breathe. Starting the day with a glass of lemon water, particularly after a rather unsavoury weekend, will set you up for a day of virtuous recovery.

4. Move gently

Go for a swim, do some yoga, go for a walk or do some gentle stretching. If you feel like an intense workout go for it but if you’re still feeling a little delicate just take it easy with some gentle exercise until you feel a bit more like yourself.

5. Drink herbal tea

If you’ve over indulged and you’re feeling bloated and a bit unwell, herbal tea will fix you right up. Peppermint tea is the best but green tea will work as well. If you find yourself lacking in energy and feeling a touch sluggish, get a cup of herbal tea in to you!

How was your weekend? Totally virtuous? Or deliciously toxic?

  1. My weekend summarised completely! Went for a walk this morning (although I really did not want to) and now for copious glasses of water to rehydrate! Hope your Easter was awesome!

That’s what I’m doing today! Yesterday was a major write off (three day hang over! So unfair!) but I’m back on track today!

Mine was not virtuous by any stretch of the imagination but I did get to the gym and go out for a run which I felt balanced out the delicious toxicity of the other parts of the weekend. It’s all about balance! Hope your Easter was a real cracker! x

Totally about the balance! I tipped a little bit in a bad direction but I’ve been eating so clean recently I think that was the problem!

Pretty quiet Easter here – not much indulging – ration of 2 mini eggs per evening as an after dinner treat. I decided a while ago not to beat myself up for a lapse in dietary adherence. Every day is a new day, just jump back on whichever wagon you fell off. Hope you all had a great long weekend. Xx

I love mini eggs and I only a few this year! Ripped off! My weekend was great but tiring!

If you basically subtract House of Cards and add in Hart of Dixie’s final season you would be correct. But I have a yoga class planned today to get back on the bandwagon! Hope you had a good weekend too! 🙂
