Sold on a Sample – Uncle Tobys Cafe Style Oats

It might amuse you to know that one of the top search terms that leads people to the Smaggle blog is ‘porridge’. I talk about it a lot. I create recipes around it. I strangely overindulge in it when my boyfriend goes out of town. You could say I have issues.  So naturally I was delighted when I got a little packet of quick oats inside a women’s fitness magazine last month.

Truth be told, the serving is a little on the small side for a meal. I’m a greedy guts so if that’s going to be my breakfast it’s going to need some nuts and other fruit added but I’ve been having this as an afternoon snack and it’s THE BOMB. It’s not crazy sweet just perfectly injected with apple and blueberries. Delish!

Also, I’m a sucker for well designed packaging and the dudes at Uncle Tobys are clearly rocket scientists. Or something to that effect. Once you empty out the porridge into the bowl and the package is empty there’s this genius little line that you can use to measure your milk. Those crazy cats are seducing me with the act of saving me washing up.

After trying the sample, I was hooked. I bought a box of ten and I am just about to buy another box. They are super convenient and I’ll often pop one in my bag to have for an emergency lunch if I’m working away from home.

Do you have any awesome food products that you’ve discovered recently? Do share!

Disclaimer: I got this sample free in a magazine and I bought (and ate) a whole box of them because I think they are awesome.

Not one of this weeks posts were sponsored, I paid for all the products myself and the posts were published in additional to our regular posts. I’m not entirely sure why this upset you.

I’m a big fan of these too.  I usually have them for breakfast, but with some yoghurt or fruit because, as you said, the serving size is a bit wimpy.

Yeah you have to, otherwise you’re just hungry all day!

I made my own creamy oats by grinding rolled oars in my blender. I then add the stewed fruits that I want – I make quick stewed fruit by cutting up an apple or pear and microwaving it for Two mins while I shower – otherwise on the weekend I let my fruit bubble on the stove . I found a recipe to make banana bread batted oatmeal – mashed banana, cinnamon, oats, chocolate and vanilla and it is divine.

I too am mad for Uncle Toby’s Oats! My dad used to work them (over 20 years ago) and I’ve loved their products ever since. I was a particular fan of the banana/choc chip muesli bars.

I get the Creamy Honey ones, and I am so rapt about the new ‘milk line’ on the package. Lately, I have started cutting up a pear and adding that to the bowl before microwaving. It makes the serving nice and big and super delicious. I’m planning to stew some pears and some apples this weekend to have a choice of what to add.

    YUMMY!

Lady Smaggle, I’m loving getting a little glimpse into your life (and being reminded that we’re both porridge fans) and hearing you endorse various products that you love. I really don’t see much difference between these posts and your outfit posts where you tell us where you bought various pieces. You are endorsing those clothes, without any payment or recoompense from the suppliers – just like this. I think it’s cool!

Always a bit worried about how much sugar these instant oats contain! I’m slowly discovering that almost every breakfast food that is made to be quick and convenient is inevitably packed full of sugar.. very disappointing

I’m a massive fan of these as a 4pm chocolate substitute. On sachet fits perfectly in a mug and if your work supplies milk, even better.

I also love these little sachets of yummy ness. So much so, I get all excited when hubby has a business dinner, so I can have one of these for tea…
