Holy shit I love American Apparel. I have NEVER had service like I have had with AA. Let me share with you a little story…
When America Apparel released there Prada rip off knee high socks I jumped on board like a refugee. I love getting a new trend for next to nothing because, lets face it, I’m probably not going to love knee socks forever and in that instance, paying Prada prices just doesn’t work for me. And at $19 the AA ones are too good to pass up. So I ordered this pair about 2 weeks ago…
True to AA form the socks arrived in around 4 days. Which is stupidly quick considering the fact that I live in Australia. Anyway once they arrived I discovered a hole. I then followed the correct returns procedure and called them. I couldn’t call on Monday as it was a public holiday. On Tuesday I couldn’t figure out how to make a call to America so I couldn’t call then. Finally on Wednesday, Browny (my work mate) helped me to make the call to AA in America. This is at around 10am. They answered the phone after 3 rings, I was not at any stage put on hold and the lovely lady on the phone told me they would ship me a new pair but that it may take around 3 weeks. No worries. Excellent service. And then on Friday (only 2 days later) I received a Fed Ex card saying they tried to deliver a package from AA but there was no one home. They said they would deliver it as soon as possible the following week. And they did! I received them yesterday and they are divine. They also sent me a catalogue which is very clever of them because I am so beside myself with joy at the excellent service I have received I’m going to order more stuff. To be honest I think I want more socks…
And for us Aussies there is an Australian link that show all prices in Australian dollars and if you order more than $100 worth of stuff the shipping is free. The T-shirts are incredible and I am in love with my socks. Actually I’m in love with AA…

Try the uni sex v-neck. It’s really long and the v-neck is so flattering! I need to show a bit of neck and collar bone to avoid looking frumpy.

Amy – The uni-sex tee is great. It’s really long and I like my tees kind of baggy. I got a medium and it’s quite baggy on me. I am usually a medium size in Australian sizes. About a 12 to 14 depending on where I shop. So if you are any smaller than that I would recommend the small. It is bigger because it’s mens.
Gervy – My t-shirt is holding up fine at the moment but I haven’t had it that long so I will let you know if it falls apart. And the t-shirts are like $25! Where are you finding cheaper ones? Even Target t-shirts are around that price and are far worse quality than AA. Although I admit the t-shirts are little too long. I might try the uni-sex small next time.

About 6 years ago, I bought a shirt from their Montreal Canada store. I live in the states and AA hadn’t arrived yet. It was the best shirt – knit scoop neck. I wore it to death! The other week, I decided it was finally time to replace it – it was slightly faded but still in great shape after all those years – so I stopped in and bought another great tee and some over the knee socks.
LS – I thought about picking up one of the universal v-necks but wasn’t sure of the size. Does the sizing match up with ladies’ sizes or is it slightly bigger bc they are uni?

OK, I beg to differ (a bit). I love the IDEA of American Apparel – simple basics, made in LA, etc. Love the marketing and the way the stores are presented. While I was in London and NY I bought several t-shirts there. The plus points are that they have sufficent length for my long body, and they are pleasantly simple (no logos or other irritations) – and that’s surprisingly hard to come by. BUT they tend to lose shape quite quickly over time. I think this stuff is overpriced for what it is… although on second thoughts, that’s cos all the competition is made by kids in China. So, I guess if you have the spare cash it’s not a bad business to support.

can’t remember what I paid now – I’m SURE it was significantly more than $25. or maybe I’m just losing it. but wow, the prices online are cheap! maybe online is cheaper? I dunno

i wish i had your luck! i ordered a dress but put my credit card details in wrong, and they never told me so I waited for a month before I rang up asking it’s where-abouts and then they told me 🙁 and i bought a vest that took 3 weeks to arrive!
