I recently ousted a friend of mine on FourSquare from her own house and consequently became Mayor of her house. The fact she’d been on FourSquare for a grand total of two days did nothing make the victory bittersweet. I won. It was awesome.
I like to win things. I also love free things and discounts which is why I have about 20 of those coffee stamp cards from different cafes because I’m so enticed by the thought of a free latte that my wallet is constantly choking on ratty loyalty cards that I never ever finish. In keeping with my fiscal tradition of adoring free things, I’m also rather enamored of a free phone app. Especially the West End iPhone app that I discovered on my recent trip to the Merrywell. Seriously man it’s the gift that keeps on giving.
On the night that I was there if you checked into the Merrywell you got a $15 burger and pint. Total bargain. Then if you checked into Lumia you got 20% off cocktails. Delicious ancient sugar syrup based cocktails I might add. Very fancy pants indeed. They also have a section where you can check out what’s on in the area and you get rewards for simply checking in. There’s a cocktail called the Queen of Hearts that I love – gin, strawberry juice, cranberry juice, berry vodka, and a bit of champagne. There’s variations, but that’s the best version in my opinion. Finished with sugar around the rim of the glass, and perfection calls. Mmm.

I am very flexible when it comes to my cocktail flavours, though I find it hard to go past a really good gin fizz.

It’s a Margarita, hands down. And not a fancy pants frozen one. On the rocks, salt rimmed glass and preferably drunk whilst sitting on a swing at a bar on the beach in Mexico!
