What To Wear To A Concert

I

’m not much of a musical festival go-er. I’ve heard one too many terrible stories about people being urinated on in mosh-pits to ever get too serious about doing the festival circuit. I do love concerts though and through lots of trial and error and I’ve come up with a fool proof plan for what to wear to a concert. I’m talking hardcore concerts, not like pleasant old rocker style ones where you can sit down and order a cracker box with wine. Here’s what to wear to a concert you want to dance like a fool at…

Something with pockets

A dress with pockets or jeans will do. That way you can pop your cash, credit card, ID, lipgloss and phone in your pockets without having to worry about lugging a giant bag around. Just be careful to make sure your items are secure – deep and angled pockets are good for this.

A headscarf

Pretty much everyone’s hair gets trashed at concerts. It’s usually really hot and sticky and everyone ends up looking like drowned rats. Bundle your hair up in a rad head scarf and tie it turban style and you’ll look awesome all day. Here’s a a tutorial on how to tie a scarf into a turban if you’re not sure how to go about it.

Comfortable and protective shoes

I once read in the paper (yes the actual made-of-paper paper) that a girl had her toe stomped off in the mosh pit of some music festival in the UK. Stomped. Off. I’m not expecting you to wear steel cap boots but perhaps a nice sturdy pair of cute loafers or Converse sneakers would be a better choice than thongs.

Nothing precious

Don’t wear your grandmas pearl earrings if you’re going to be dancing like a maniac in a room with a thousand other people. Only wear things that you don’t really care about that much.

Something Breathable

I always wear 100% cotton to concerts because acrylic and polyester mix very, very badly with sweat. Wear something comfy that isn’t going to make you feel like you’ve been wrapped in plastic.

Here’s my standard concert outfit. I wear it nearly every year to Cellblock 69.

Dress from Marrimekko

Shoes from Midas

Headscarf from Sportsgirl
