Very Excellent Habits

The Flattering/Unflattering Dress

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I

was pretty chubby as a kid and have been varying levels of chubby for my adult life, so I always have this whole ‘flattering’ concept when it comes to clothing. I don’t love super tight clothes (because my body looks like I’m trying to shove a piglet in a sock) but I don’t love voluminous clothing either because it just makes me look like I’m trying to smuggle a family of six into the circus. The line is fine my friends, the line is fine.

So I’ve recently been shopping in Cos in Melbourne. Some of the stuff looks hideous on me but some of it looks quite decent. When I wear clothing (which is most of the time) I usually accentuate my waist (because I actually don’t have much of a waist so I like to draw attention to whatever I have in that department) but Cos has this architectural sack-like cut that I’m kind of loving right now. It also means I can get an XL Pho for lunch and not have to un-zip my pants. The thing is, I can’t tell if it’s flattering or not and I don’t actually care. I just love the pattern and it’s super comfy so if it’s an unflattering dress, I don’t really give a shit.

Dress from Cos

Boots from Echo

Tights from Big W

Every day jewellery – Earrings from Thailand, rings from Bryon Bay and Rose St Markets, coin necklace from my grandfather.

This was worn for a manic day working in the office with my business wife Chrissy, a jaunt down the street for some tasty Pho, a leisurely walk home and an evening on the couch with Mr Smaggle who’s been away for two weeks. I made gluten free spaghetti bolognaise, took the night off from the gym and crocheted the night away. It was brilliant.
