How To Wear The Same Coat Every Day In Winter Without Dying of Boredom

I

really struggle every winter with the coat situation. I live in Melbourne so during the winter months, I’m pretty much a walking coat. I also only own two coats because I hate all the coats and I’ve only ever found two that I like. Well I have one that I like and the other I tolerate because it’s so damn warm. I have a grey wool tweed style belted trench coat (stylish) and a navy down coat (practical). Every winter all the photos of me with my mates end up looking the same – it’s generally me in one of my two coats. Boring but I don’t really have much choice other than to wear the same coat every in winter. I do have a few little tricks for mixing it up though.

3 tips for making a winter coat look less dull…

1. Scarves, scarves, scarves. I always go for natural fibres because I walk everywhere and if you’ve ever power walked for 20 minutes with an acrylic scarf around your neck you’ll know it turns into a swamp pretty quickly. I have a small wardrobe of scarves but they’re all different. Some are chunky, some are circle, some are square but they all add a totally different look to my standard winter jacket.

2. Wear lipstick. Your face is pretty much your only accessory in winter, so dress it up.

3. Try a head scarf. These are great for windy and rainy days. Storms make everyone’s hair look rubbish so head scarves are a practical and stylish way to make you look less like a cardboard cutout for three months every winter.

This outfit was worn for a very chilly and windy walk to the city to work at the state library for a few hours. It was a lovely day actually!
