5 Forgotten Movies To Watch When You’re Feeling Grumpy

I found myself at home alone on Sunday night. I’d spent the day working and I was ready to chill out on the couch but I couldn’t for the life of me think of anything I wanted to watch. Netflix has ruined me. It’s like being in a video store in my own lounge room and all the videos are free. I’m paralysed by choice. So I googled ‘feel good movie’ and The Help popped up. Freaking perfect. This made me realise how bloody useful blog posts like this are – helping people to make good movie choices is a task I take quite seriously and on that note, here are 5 forgotten movies to watch when you’re feeling grumpy.

The Blind Side

Perfect for when: You’re grumpy but the reason is a bit silly and you need to be reminded that Sandra Bullock exists and she’s going to make everything okay.

Recommended snacks: Celery sticks with peanut butter and a cup of tea. You’re watching Sandy B – she would not approve of Cheezels my friend.

Quote to remember:

Beth: You’re changing that boy’s life.
Leigh Anne Touhy: No. He’s changing mine.

Can I get a collective sob over here?

About Time

Perfect for when: You’re home alone and possibly having some relationship troubles. It will either make you super grateful that your relationship troubles aren’t that bad (time travel is a relationship KILLER!) or it will make you see that the person you’re in a relationship is neither Domhnall Gleeson nor Rachel McAdams so you should just break up with them. Never settle for less.

Recommended snacks: A bowl of mixed lollies eaten without the lights on. To pay homage to the dark dinner scene.

Quote to remember:

Mum: I am fucking furious. I am so uninterested in a life without your father.

The Help

Perfect for when: You need to totally escape your own world and be transported to the 1950s in Jackson Mississippi. It just leaves you feeling like the universe sorts itself out you know?

Recommended snacks: Definitely not chocolate pie.

Quote to remember:

Aibileen Clark: You is kind. You is smart. You is important.

Serendipity

Perfect for when: You need a big old dollop of totally adorable – Kate Beckinsale and John Corbett will do that to you. Even though John Corbett plays a total twat he’s still yummy.

Recommended snacks: Wine and cheese. Nothing to do with the move it just feels like a wine and cheese moment doesn’t it?

Quote to remember:

Jonathan: I hope you enjoy the gloves you bought yourself.
Sara: Oh, I’m sure I will, I usually enjoy my own thoughtfulness.

Juno

Perfect for when: For whenever. For always. This movie is a straight up delight.

Recommended snacks: Red Vines and a Big Gulp. Obviously. Maybe a giant bottle of Sunny D if you’re really feeling it.

Quote to remember:

Leah: It’s probably just a food baby. Did you have a big lunch?
Juno MacGuff: No, this is not a food baby all right? I’ve taken like three pregnancy tests, and I’m forshizz up the spout.
