Minimalist Habits for People Who Live in The Real World

Recently on Instagram I did one of those ‘make an assumption about me’ style things and someone made the assumption that I’m a minimalist and I said, yeah I kind of am and that lead to me sharing a few of my minimalist habits.

Since I did that little series people have been really interested specifically in what WE do that’s minimalist rather than more general stuff. Creating minimalist habits can be scary to a lot of people. Mainly because it’s pitched as a life devoid of superfluous needs. This invokes imagery of owning a single splade you eat every meal with because knives and spoons are a needless luxury. That’s not what minimalism has to be about at all. It’s okay to own stuff. It’s okay to own a lot of stuff. This episode is about looking at what you can cut down on (maybe excess reusable water bottles or kitchen appliances) and making conscious exceptions for the stuff you love (books, art supplies, books, vinyl records or you know, books).

So here are some minimalist habits we have in our house that might work in your house too. We are a robust family with hobbies and a toddler so if we can whittle down our belongings it’s doable for almost everyone.
