How To Fake It Through a Low Energy Day

No matter how hardcore you’re being with getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising, cutting back on booze and all that other lovely stuff that makes you function well, we all have low energy days for no real reason. Unfortunately, we usually have to suffer through them because ‘feeling tired’ isn’t widely considered a good enough reason to ditch work. On that note, if you’re finding yourself feeling really sluggish, here are a few things you can do to stop yourself from falling asleep at your desk.

Dress up

You know that feeling when you really don’t want to go to a party on a Saturday night because you’d rather say at home with wine and Netflix but by the time you’ve done your hair and make-up you’re totally ready to go full Beyonce on the dance floor? If you’re feeling tired for work, apply this principle. Get all dolled up and gorgeous and watch your mood elevate.

Have an Espress-Wooze

The details are in this post but it’s basically an emergency fix to get you through a crazy afternoon when you’ve had no sleep. You have a shot of coffee and lie down for a 20-minute nap immediately. By the time you wake, your coffee will have kicked in and you’ll be rested and buzzing. Snap. Hint: If you drive your car to work, you can nap there or you can find an empty office in your building for your cheeky afternoon lie down.

Drink an obscene amount of water

Drink at least 2 full litres throughout the day. It keeps you hydrated, energised and keeps you busy jumping up and going to the toilet all the time too, which is an added bonus. This is an excellent habit to get into on a daily basis too, not just on days when you feel a bit tired.

Get some sun

Humans are able to absorb energy from the sun by soaking up Vitamin D through our skin, so be sure to take advantage of this by sitting in the sun for 5 to 10 minutes when you can. The sun just also makes people happy in general so it’s an excellent mood enhancer, even without the Vitamin D benefits.

Do as many physical tasks as you can

If you’re already lacking energy, sitting in a chair all day is only going to make you feel worse. If you work in retail, restock some shelves. If you’re a teacher, get the kids outside for a walk around the oval. If you work in an office, offer to clean out the kitchen fridge. Do anything other than sit down and the day will fly by.
