Very Excellent Habits

I’ve got a little something to tell you…

S

maggle is officially on tour. I’ve packed up my travel capsule wardrobe and I’m on a plane to LA. We booked these flights over a year ago on a whim and it’s suddenly rolled around quicker than we thought. It’s March tomorrow. I can’t even begin to process that.

We’re hitting up Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Yosemite and San Diego. I’ve never been to any of these places before (except for LAX for about an hour where I had a terrible coffee and nearly lost half my hair in this ridiculously high powered hand dryer). I want to put together a bucket list of things to do in the US because I can’t do anything unless it’s on a list first. Here’s what I’ve got so far.

  1. Visit Disneyland (this will obviously have a whole bucket list of it’s own)
  2. Eat at In N Out Burger (I’m not crazy into this one but apparently it’s essential)
  3. Go to Alcatraz
  4. See the Full House house
  5. Get a photo with the Hollywood sign (you’ve got to do it, it’s rude not to)
  6. Put my hands in Michael Jackson’s hands on the Hollywood walk of fame
  7. Sleep in a novelty room in Vegas (I’m thinking heart shaped bed or an aquarium room. Or BOTH!)
  8. Visit the bonobos at the San Diego Zoo
  9. Go to Tunnel View
  10. Eat a York (my favourite US treat)
  11. Do an advanced crochet class if I can find one

I’d love some suggestions if you have been to that area. Particularly for awesome adventure-type places and experiences. Also weird museums and ghost tours are right up our alley or things like serial killer exhibitions. All that creepy stuff.

I purposefully skipped this mornings post (did anyone freak out that there wasn’t a 6am post this morning?) because sometimes it’s cool to live blog. That’s how we used to do it in the old days. I thought I’d share my long haul outfit too because I’m always curious what other people wear on long haul flights. It needs to feel like pyjamas but look like a ball gown and this is almost impossible to achieve.

Wearing

Pants from Sussan (I hardly wear pants but you just really have to on a flight so the poor people opposite you don’t cop an eyeful of your lady garden when you fall asleep with your legs in the air)

Top from Big W (I searched for a full day for a striped long sleeve t-shirt and Big W was the only place who delivered. It’s 100% cotton and was $10. Bargain.)

Shoes from Merrell (I bought these a year ago and I will happily wear this style for the rest of my life. They’re pretty much the only shoes I’ve packed.)

The weekend was so manic with packing and getting everything sorted for the trip so I’m super excited to have a solid 14 hours without internet. The airport staff didn’t take my crochet hook away from me (yay!) so I’m going to make a pair of socks and binge watch something awesome.

You’ll have to pardon my scowl. I’m never very happy on early flights.

What do you think I should add to my US bucket list? Also what do you wear on long haul flights?
