How To Not Waste Your Weekend

I

usually write posts like this because the topic is something I’ve mastered myself but I actually really suck at not wasting my weekends. I rarely over plan and I rarely over drink but I often end up working for most of the weekend or sleeping in way too late because I got too excited and stayed up watching old episodes of Gilmore Girls and eating cheese on toast at 1am. This post is just a reminder before the weekend starts, for all of us, not to waste it. Weekends are precious so make sure you make the most of them. Here’s how not to waste your weekend.

Don’t over plan

It might seem like a really awesome idea to book yourself out all weekend but by the time Sunday night hits and you haven’t so much as sat on your own couch for at least an hour or two, you need to calm down on all the invitation acceptance. I usually lock in 1 dinner and maybe a lunch or coffee over the weekend but that’s it. If I’ve met someone a handful of times and they (very sweetly) invite me to their baby shower, I will very politely decline every single time. If someone wants to take my Sunday afternoon away from me they have to be a blood relation, one of my closest ever friends or Mr Smaggle. Be selfish with your weekends and treat them like a pile of money. Don’t just be handing out fifties all willy nilly or you’ll be left with nothing.

Stick to your regular sleep patterns as much as possible

It can be SUPER tempting to stay up late because NO WORK ON SATURDAYS but life still happens on Saturdays. Kids still exist on Saturdays, your washing basket is still full on Saturdays and you still have to grocery shop on Saturdays. It’s cool to spend a little bit of extra time in Bed-fordshire but don’t permanently relocate there.

Watch your alcohol cosumption

I like to drink on the weekends too but here’s a little thing I figured out recently… I reach my absolute peak of fun when I’ve had 3 to 4 glasses of wine. If I have MORE than 4 glasses (over an entire evening) I never, ever have additional fun. It doesn’t even prolong the fun I’m already having, it just makes me feel shitter as the night goes on and definitely worse the next day. If I stop drinking and have a cup of tea instead, it’s never a bad decision but if I slam an extra couple of reds… bad life choice.

Be a little bit productive…

A lot of people get really funny about doing chores on the weekend but I love it! I’ll chuck on a few loads of washing, set up the ironing board in front of the TV or clean out the fridge. Do try to fit in a few odd jobs around the house on the weekend, it will make the world of difference by the time Monday rolls around and the busy week kicks in.

But also make sure you enjoy wasting some time

A weekend isn’t a weekend unless you’ve snuggled on the couch with your kids to watch cartoons or lay in bed in the morning reading a good book. Time spent doing something you love, is never time wasted.

What are you up to this weekend? Anything exciting on for you?
