What To Wear When You Haven’t Done Laundry For 2 Weeks

S

o the last two weeks have been SUPER annoying. Our washing machine broke, then we fixed it ourselves (Mr Smaggle fixed it while I threw out the handfuls of bobby pins and bra underwires that were clogging the damn thing), and then it broke again. We did two giant loads of washing about two weeks ago and it cost us around $25 which was a bit of a sting to be honest. I was thinking a couple of bucks at the most but that’s a pho dinner for two right there. Unacceptable. Anyway, I haven’t done laundry for 2 weeks and this is what’s happening.

Dress from Sunny Girl * Cardigan from Supre * Tights from Big W * Boots from Frye * Hand made crochet shawl that legit took ten years off my life to make * My new babies my Bose headphones I kept stealing Mr Smaggle’s and my accountant told me I didn’t spend enough on my business last year so I splurged on these. They’ve been glued to my head for the whole week I’ve had them. It’s true love *

I’m wearing a mish-mash of clothes I haven’t touched since summer. I don’t hate it though. I’ve quite enjoyed the challenge of patching together outfits from layered summer clothes and/anything that’s clean.

Here are a few tips for getting dressed when you haven’t done laundry in a while…

Grab something you haven’t worn in a while and give it a go

I’m totally okay with wearing summer dresses in winter – I just pop them on over thermals. I’m not into this winter clothing/summer jazz. As long as I can layer it, I’m a happy gal.

Go simple

I err on the side of looking dressed up most of the time but when I’m desperate I just don’t care. I’ll chuck an easy dress on with some boots and a cardigan and I’m good to go. Especially in winter because I’m just going to cover the whole thing up with a coat anyway so what’s the point?

Borrow clothes from your family or friends

Mr Smaggle has a hand knit jumper that I’m becoming rather fond of borrowing and I also have a lovely scarf that appeared in my wardrobe that I certainly didn’t buy. So yes, I’m suggesting you borrow clothing from your mates with functioning washing machines.

Buy new underwear

It’s the perfect excuse. I so rarely buy new underwear so I need to be forced to do it. Having no clean underwear really pushes me over the edge. In an ideal world, I’d wash the new underwear before I bought it but if I’m desperate, I’ll just go with it.

Be less fussy

I’ve often suspected that I wash my clothing way too often and this suspicion is always confirmed whenever I’m without a washing machine. Most things can be worn more than once. Except for underwear. If you want to, go for it but I’m a fresh pair every day kind of gal.

This outfit was worn for trekking around the city in the blustery wind. Post office visits, organising my overseas trip that’s happening in two weeks (eep!) and getting a shite tonne of work done before I go. I also had a cheeky glass of wine with a mate and cooked a healthy stew for dinner. Yay for winter!

What’s your life plan when you run out of clothes? Do you delve into the depths for something clean or do you wear something that’s a little less than fresh?
