How To Fake Having A Tidy House All The Time

I

don’t hate cleaning that much. I actually really enjoy the lines the vacuum makes on the floor when you give it a good ol’ hoovering. Dusting also pleases me greatly, especially when there’s enough grime that you can see a thick line when you wipe your cloth across a surface. It’s just so damn satisfying.

I also love coming home to a clean house. Whenever I walk into my house and everything is shiny and clean, I just want to high five myself. I’ve had a few people ask about house cleaning tips and tricks so I put together a few bits and pieces to help you have a tidy house when you don’t really like cleaning.

1. Get a Roomba

They’re perfect for in-between cleans. So many people are really weird about Roombas but I couldn’t survive without mine. I use it most days and it’s a great way to keep my house looking clean without having to do a proper vacuum every day.

2. Find a podcast you love and dedicate it to cleaning.

That way you’ll actually look forward to cleaning. My new favourite is My Favourite Murder but I’m only allowed to listen to it when I’m at the gym or cleaning the house. It makes me do both a lot more frequently.

3. Work as a team.

Dedicate a specific time to cleaning and make everyone in the house clean at that time. That way you know everyone is chipping in. Mr Smaggle and I do Power Hour most days where we whip around the house and clean for an hour. It’s just a great way to get the house spick and span without it taking all day.

4. Designate a spot for every single item in your house.

This takes a really long time to do but it’s worth it. When you see an empty spot, you know something is missing. We have a peg board where we hang our keys, sunglasses and headphones and we never have cluttered bench tops full of everyday items because we’ve got a spot to store each of our belongings.

5. Get a cleaner.

This might not be financially viable for a lot of people but for others it’s just a matter of getting over that road block in your head of paying someone to do something you can do yourself. If you genuinely can’t afford it, that’s fine but if you drop $50 at the pub every second night, you can definitely afford a cleaner.

This week on Straight and Curly, Kelly and I talking about house cleaning hacks. There’s some great tips in there so it’s definitely worth a listen.

There’s also a new episode of Sweet Teen Club live this week – Mermaids! Pop on your polka dot wiggle dress and try to kiss your teenage daughter’s boyfriend – Mrs Flax is in town!
