olidays are grand. There’s no work, awesome food, no washing, no dishes, no responsibilities and you can have a cocktail pretty much every afternoon and no one will judge you. The biggest issue with holidays is the come down, when you have to go back to normal life and start living like an adult again. Boo.

Unfortunately it has to be done and it’s rarely pleasant but there are things you can do to make the transition a little easier. Here’s how to bounce back after a holiday.

Get back into your regular sleeping pattern as soon as possible

It can be difficult to get back to your regular sleeping patterns right away but you need to give it a red-hot go. Try not to over sleep or stay up too late trying to play catch up. The sooner you can get your sleep times back to where they were, the better.

Do a big shop as soon as you can and stock up on your staples

We’re all guilty of living off takeaway and cereal for a few days after a holiday but there’s no excuse to not duck to the shops and stock up on your healthy regulars. A big nutritious salad will set you right back on track.

Get back into your exercise routine ASAP

Even just a few gentle walks or a low impact yoga class is perfect to ease you back into real life. Most people are actually quite active on holidays because they walk around and do lots of sight-seeing and their bodies are used to the movement and endorphins from all the incidental exercise. If you come home and sit your bottom you won’t be doing yourself any favours mentally or physically. Take some time to ease a little movement into your day when you get back from a holiday.

Have a positive attitude

Just keep telling yourself how boring life would be if you were on holiday all the time. I know that sounds ridiculous but the reason why holidays are so amazing is because they’re different to the other times in your life. Ask anyone who has been travelling for an extended period of time what they miss about real life and most of them will say routine. You can’t ever be truly excited if you’re never bored so look at post holiday glumness as a necessity for the enjoyment of your next holiday.

Start thinking about booking your next holiday

Sometimes holiday anticipation is even better than the actual holiday. Think about when the clock ticks down to the last second on your last day of work before you’re off for two weeks. It’s amazing right? Start having a scout around for your next holiday destination and try to harness some of the good vibes to put you in a better post-holiday mood.
