5 Bad Morning Habits You Totally Need To Ditch

M

ornings are already hard enough and so many of us make them even harder by sabotaging ourselves. Sometimes when I wake up in the morning, I’ll hit my snooze button twice and then set a timer for 2 minutes longer in bed. What kind of fresh hell is that? 2 more minutes? Am I trying to ruin my morning? I’m a self help mega-junkie and I’m trying to ditch these little bad morning habits. Here a few naughty habits you might want to ditch…

Letting your phone be the first thing you touch when you wake up

If your phone is also your alarm, get a new alarm. There is no need for anyone to have their phone in bed. If it rings, you can get up to answer it. There’s nothing that will make you feel sluggish and dazed more than staring at your phone for the first half an hour after you wake up. Plus if you don’t have your phone near your bed, it’s an added incentive to get out of bed.

Staying in bed until the very last minute

It feels so decadent and cheeky to stay in bed for just 5 more minutes but by the time you’ve done that three times you’ve set yourself back 15 minutes and you end up arriving at work with wet hair, no make up, feeling frazzled and unprepared. It’s not worth it – set yourself a time to be out of bed by and stick to it.

Waking up with out a plan

If you have to catch public transport, pack your gym gear and take a morning tea in to work the next day, have a rough plan in your head of how you’re going to do it. Think about how you’re going to carry your stuff, get out the door, get on the train or into your car and if there are ways you can help yourself to achieve this. You can ruin your morning pretty quickly by failing to realised that you can’t carry ten boxes of fundraising chocolates to work on the bus.

Being angry because it’s the morning time

Even morning people aren’t that stoked about the morning. Sleep is great and so are beds and even the perkiest of perky early birds will have even the slightest glimmer of regret as they spring out of bed in the morning. It’s so easy to start the day with a bad attitude even if you quite like your life or your job simply because sleeping is the best thing ever and anything else is the worst. It’s not the mornings fault that it’s not as awesome as sleep so go easy on it. You’re only hurting yourself by starting your day in a grump.

Watching TV

I know quite a few people who watch TV in the morning and it absolutely baffles me. There’s just no need for it – it’s distracting, it’s a waste of time and most of the shows on in the morning are absolute garbage. Don’t try watching an episode of your favourite show on Netflix either. That’s just a recipe for using up a sick day.
