5 Things You’re Totally Allowed to be Pissed Off About

I

t’s a bit taboo to talk about judging people these days. We’re supposed to pretend like we don’t do that anymore but it’s a total farce. We’re constantly judging people all day. We judge how fast the cashiers are at our local supermarket, and we pick the speediest ones. We judge our friends based on the type of support we need on a particular day. We judge our bosses according to who’s more likely to approve our leave application.

Being ‘judgemental’ is seen as a very negative thing but I’ll happily admit I judge people… but only on super important things. I don’t give a crap where someone was born, how much money they earn, what they wear or who they’re married to. I judge people on how unpleasant they make life for those around them and I’m pretty black and white about it. Tolerance is always a good thing to practice but there are some things that are just unacceptable. Here are a few things you’re totally allowed to get annoyed about.

When people don’t pick up after their dog

The occasional mishap if someone left their doggy poo bags at home is fine but repeatedly leaving dog poo land mines in high foot-traffic areas is disgusting and disrespectful. If picking up dog poo is so abhorrent, perhaps people should reconsider owning a dog.

When they’re rude to waitstaff

Again, the occasional bad day or someone being a bit grumpy if they’ve received bad service is fine but generally people should be 95% pleasant to everyone 95% of the time. Also if someone has let their own bad day lead to them being unkind to someone else, they damn well better apologise. No one should let their bad day become someone else bad day.

When they drink drive or text while driving

There are no excuses. People die this way and we need to stop accepting it as normal behaviour. If I’m in a car with someone and they try texting while they’re driving I will literally take the phone out of their hands. Phone holders cost next to nothing so there’s no need for anyone to have a phone in their hand while they’re driving. People need to start being more horrified when they witness people doing this.

When they’re cruel to animals

Deal breaker. If I find out that someone beats their dog, they’re dead to me.

When they try to get out of paying their fair share

Luckily, my mates are total grown ups about this but people who refuse to pay their way when out for dinner drive me mental. A friend of a friend used to do this all the time. The bill would come, everyone would chuck in their $30 but we’d be $30 short every time. It was always the same guy – he’d sit there and swear he put his money in but we all knew he didn’t. It got to the point where we’d pay separately at the counter and he’d be visibly annoyed that he didn’t away without paying. Needless to say he stopped getting invited out for dinner pretty quickly. Such a jerk.

Do you have any deal breakers like this when it comes to having people in your life? Is there anything you simply won’t tolerate?
