3 Ways To Get Your Shit Together in September

Y

eah… so this is super awkward but it’s September this week. I’m going to do my best impersonation of an old lady and say ‘Where has the year gone???’. But seriously though… where the hell has this year gone?

At the beginning of every month I like to set some goals. Who doesn’t love the start of a new month? It’s like a fresh sponge cake just waiting to be iced or a shiny new notebook covered in cellophane that you can just rip off and dive right into. I also like to look over the previous month to see how I went. I didn’t publicly set any challenges for August but I didn’t do too badly. I travelled a lot and was unwell for a week but I did the best I could. I’m feeling better now so I thought I’d go hardcore for September and really get my butt into hear. Here are 3 health challenges I’m setting myself for September… want to join me?

#20minutesaday

This is recycled from earlier in the year but it’s such a fantastic goal I wanted to repeat it. So for every day in September I’m going to exercise for just 20 minutes. If you’re keen to join in just snap a pic of you exercising and hashtag it #20minutesaday. I’ll be focusing on legs – I’m a bridesmaid in November and I’m wearing a short dress so it’s all about getting super hot pins before then.

#cleaneating

I read a rant on a personal trainers Facebook page recently about how much they hate the term ‘clean eating’. They were saying it’s ambiguous and polarising. I totally disagree. I love the term clean eating and for me it means eating clean. Like stuff that doesn’t come in packages and isn’t processed. For the whole of September I’ll only be eating foods that can be hunted or gathered. Which means no processed snacks or refined sugars. Lots of fresh veggies, fruit and meat for me. Want to join? Just snap a pic of your super clean meal and hashtag it #cleaneating.

#9pmscreenfree

I try to do this continuously but sometimes I take on a few too many projects and I let it slip. I’m going to be super strict on myself and make sure my phone goes on do not disturb mode at 9pm, the computer gets turned off and I’m not allowed to touch either until the next morning. I can’t be as strict about the TV because I live in a one bedroom apartment with my partner but I’m going to aim to be in bed and reading by 10pm every night. Want to join? Simply post a sign off at 9pm on Instagram or Facebook at 9pm each night in September with the hashtag #9pmscreenfreemarch.

By the way you should totally sign up for the Smaggle newsletter and like Smags on Facebook. I heard a rumour that Beyonce subscribes to the Smaggle newsletter. I made that rumour up but still…
