3 Appliances We Bought and Loved

3 Appliances We Bought and Loved
Carly Jacobs

I saw on Instagram over the weekend that my mate @veggiemama got a Karcher Window Cleaner and cleaned her windows.

My immediate reaction was to go ‘HOLY MOTHER CUFFING SHITE I LOVE OUR KARCHER WINDOW CLEANER!!!’

And then I realized I had been doing my readers a disservice because I haven’t done a ‘stuff I bought and liked post’ for freaking ages so here we are.

I need to preface this post by saying I don’t recommend anything lightly. My partner Ben is a research fiend and won’t let anything inside our house unless he’s thoroughly researched the design, the company, the Amazon reviews and has conducted a rigorous legal search making sure said product hasn’t been recalled. Then we use the product for a couple of months and if it’s not working for us it gets sold on Gumtree, given away or sent back if it’s really, really bad.

So rest assured these things I’m about to recommend are legit. I paid money for them, I’m not being paid to talk about them. I just really like them and I think you might too.

Karcher Window Cleaner

What is it?

It’s like a vacuum but for your windows – you wet scrub your windows and it sucks the moisture off leaving them clean and streak-free. Our house is basically made of windows and our 1.5-year-old loves to passionately tongue kiss them so there’s a permanent smear from her hands/face in a perfect toddler height circle around the inside of our house. We can clean just that little band of grime super quickly with the Karcher without it looking obvious that we did a dodgy job. We also sometimes clean the whole window but obviously less often.

Why should I buy it?

If you hate cleaning windows and want it to be a quick and easy job, get the Karcher. I also use it for mirrors and shower screens. It’s super satisfying because it collects the grime water it sucks up and you can see all the gunk in the little chamber. Love it. It’s just something I wasn’t sure I was going to get that much use out of and I seriously pull it out of the cupboard around once a week.

Roborock

What is it?

It’s a robot vacuum. This is our second robot vacuum and we swear by them. Everyone goes ‘Hey are robot vacuums all they’re cracked up to be?’ and we go ‘Yes. They’re excellent, we’ve had a few over the last ten years and we can’t live without it!’ and then most people still don’t believe us and don’t buy one. I honestly can’t recommend them highly enough. We had a Roomba (which we loved!) but he knocked into a table and splashed a glass of water on his head and while he still worked great he was never quite the same. We had him 7 years and then he slowly stopped working so we replaced him with the Roborock and we haven’t looked back.

We tidy the house every morning, pop the vac on while we take little miss to daycare and when we get home he’s vacuuming away. We do a ‘proper’ vacuum about once a week (or when we have guests). Roborock does a great little in-between job of the floors which is essential if you have a toddler or pets.

Why should I buy it?

Because you won’t know how much you needed a robot vacuum until you get one. So many people are like ‘Oh it’s gimmicky! It’s doesn’t do a good enough job! I just don’t trust them!’ and they’re RARELY people who have a robot vacuum. It’s not a small investment but we use ours every single day and we will likely have a robot vac in some form for the rest of our lives.

Caveat – this one comes with a mop function but you have to change it over from the brush to the mop and fill it with water and we literally never do it. The barrier to use is way too high. I know that sounds lazy, but it’s the truth. If you want a robot mop, get a separate robot mop. The hybrids are too much work. Seriously by the time I’ve switched over the brush to the mop and filled it with water, I might as well have just mopped the floor. We’re seriously considering getting a robot mop because it will just be there waiting to be turned on when the robot vac is finished. I’m so excited. What an amazing team they’ll be. I’m getting a bit emotional just thinking about it.

Flair Espresso Maker

What is it?

A manual espresso maker – as in it’s not connected to electricity.

Why should I buy it?

It makes (without a doubt) the best coffee you’ll get outside of a cafe. It’s outstanding.

And those are few things I’ve bought recently (well, in the last couple of years) that I absolutely love.

Oh and this week’s episode of Straight & Curly is live – it’s about jealousy and how to stop comparing yourself to other people. You can listen on any podcast app.

Tell me… what have you bought recently that you absolutely love and can’t live without?

Oo, the Karcher looks good. It’s such a great brand too, my parents have had the high-pressure Karcher for years but I didn’t know they made a window cleaner.

I’ve just ordered a robovac! I’m waiting for it to arrive after my upright vacuum cleaner died, I’ve been putting off buying one as I already had a vacuum cleaner but my sister has one and she has a cat and her floors always look clean so that was good enough for me! I agree with the mop bit… I thought about buying a vac/mop one, but I just thought water and electrics probably wasn’t a great idea.

    Thanks for the reccommendations!

Okay, I’m absolutely sold on the Karcher. Had no idea a window vacuum even existed – cleaning windows and other glass surfaces is something I suck at for reasons unknown (so many streaks no matter what method) so I need this. What model do you recommend? It’s not available at the link you posted and doesn’t say which model…I can see there’s a few different ones at other retailers!
